I decided I needed to get our 2 bass xylos on their own separate carts. We don't have a tremendous amount of barred instruments, but I would like to get enough for a class set, eventually. We currently have everything stacked on a metal tv cart, so when I want to use the basses, I have unload the alto xylos, and aside from that, those bass xylos are old, heavy & difficult to lift & move.
So I first looked online, but these xylos are so old that they don't make stands or carts for them. Plan B: I went to my cousin & we came up with a platform on wheels idea. We put 1 x 2's on the sides & one end to hold the xylo in place, and put a PVC pipe handle on the other end. Materials cost a little over $100 (no teacher discount, I asked :( )
I also sanded the edges with sandpaper, but my cousin already had the sandpaper, so I didn't have to pay for that. We have one ready to go for classes next week, but I could only bring one xylo box home at a time because they are so heavy. (Plus, I don't have a huge car to put them in to transport.) The other cart is half done; we are waiting to put the wood strips on it until I can bring the other box home (they are not exactly the same size.) I'll post pictures once the carts are in my classroom!
