Our new format is to see only 3 classes instead of 4, for 50 minutes each. There will not be any rotating from one room to another, as the classroom teachers will pick up their own classes. I won't have to cut my classes short, as before I was the teacher in charge of the class transfer.
With this new model, we will be seeing K-2-4, or 1-3-5. We do PD every Tuesday afternoon, and I have K-2-4 up this week. I'm going to try to keep all three grade levels on the same theme, so I'm using the story book, "Giraffes Can't Dance."
After we read the story, which is about "finding your own music," I'm going to take the slant that everyone is different, just like Gerald. You shouldn't let it worry you, you should be yourself.
Then I'm going to introduce the song. "Three Little Birds" from the CD "Reggae for Kids," which contains the line, "Don't worry about a thing, 'cause every little thing is gonna be alright."
K & 2nd will focus on steady beat & form (verse/refrain). Fourth grade will add a xylophone ostinato I came up with for the chorus after we discuss the form. Then when I have the 1-3-5 switch on the other Tuesday, I can adjust as needed.
