On the back (pictured), the kids came up with their own compositions. For the first time, I taught them about how to write in the counts. This was very different for them, as we had always just worked on the number of beats for each individual note, and some really struggled with this process. In the end, I scored 10 points for each box, with 5 points for the note, and 5 for the count. I took points off for incorrect dashes or forgotten "&'s" but not misplaced stems. I did discuss those in class, and correct them on the papers, though.
